A Simple Guide On How To Afford Extended Travels

For some people, spending 2 weeks abroad on an annual basis is more than enough time for traveling. For other people, spending 2 months abroad wouldn’t be enough time. If you think you fall into the latter category then you might want to start considering ways to afford extended travels.

Obviously, that might sound as if it’s easier said than done, but it doesn’t have to be an unattainable goal.

Everyday people can afford to travel the world for extended periods of time. It’s not a lifestyle reserved for the rich.

In this short guide, I’ll be discussing some ways in which you can afford extended travels and start seeing the world on a regular (or continuous) basis.

Use price comparison websites.

It might not sound like a revolutionary piece of advice, but you’d be surprised how much money you could save by using price comparison websites for your flights.

Of course, you need to really do your research. Don’t just compare a few flights and then call it a day. If you’re thorough then you could find some absolutely ludicrous deals with certain airlines.

It’s all about timing too. During off-peak seasons, flights are much cheaper. That’s something worth bearing in mind. By flying at the right time of year and comparing your options, you could save a huge chunk of money.

You should use price comparison websites for your travel insurance and accommodation as well. If you dig deep then you’ll find that the initial deals you find on most major websites are nowhere near the cheapest ones on offer.

Consider working or volunteering in other countries.

Volunteering In Order To Afford Extended Travels

You could consider working or volunteering in other countries if you want to travel on an extended basis. Many volunteer programs will cover the expenses of the people who work with them.

It’s a chance to see the world whilst also making a difference to the lives of people in different places.

Of course, working in other countries is a great way to make money and spend as much time as possible in certain destinations.

You might even want to consider getting an exceptional talent visa if you’re gifted in science, technology, humanities, or other important subjects. Many countries welcome talented individuals to come and work there.

Save money whilst traveling.

Earlier, we talked a little about saving money on your travels by using price comparison websites, but there’s a limit to how much you can reduce costs during the planning process for your trip.

A smart way to afford extended travels is to learn how to save money whilst traveling. That’s how you’ll start to be able to afford trips that are longer than a few weeks.

The cost of your flight to and from a certain destination will remain the same, but you can stretch your money further whilst you’re staying a certain place if you learn to be frugal. Do your research to see if you can save money by using alternative forms of transport and even free accommodation.

You should also aim to sightsee independently. Rather than wasting money on a tour, you could see all the same places by yourself. You’d be able to determine your own pace and take a “tour” around destinations for free.
